Kis-My-Soul

This will not be the year Kis-My-Ft2 does not have a new single released in March as they have just announced their next single to be released on March 25th. The title of the single will be called Kiss Damashii and will be released in three versions (not including the Japan/web store only versions).

The Limited Edition Type A will come with a DVD that will have the PV of the title track, choreography video featuring the group members and another segment titled "Damashii no Hanseikai". The CD will have the title track and a B-side that will be on all the verions, Shake Body!!.

The Limited Edition Type B also has a DVD that will have a multi-angle version of the PV, the making of and footage from the recording. The CD will have the same tracks as the other LE.

The Regular Edition will just be the CD. The CD will have the two tracks that the LEs have, as well as two bonus tracks titled, Sakura Hirari and Past & Future. The first press will have a bonus slipcase.

I am of course really excited about this news. With the Busaiku single already announced for early March it was hard to say if there would be a Kisumai single as well but in the end there is. And its release date is the same for another release I am looking forward to so I will definitely be pre-ordering the two together.

Of course I am really curious to how the single will sound as it is listed as a dance and rock track on CDJapan. That makes me think of Ai no Beat, which is one of my favorite Kisumai songs so I do hope this will be something like that.

Kis-My-Ft2 - Thank youJan! RE single review

Artist: Kis-My-Ft2
Title: Thank youJan!
Release date:  24 DEC 2014
Type: single
Version: regular edition

Packaging: This came with a slip case being the first press edition of the version. The slipcase is a nice sturdy cardboard and the CD case itself feels thicker than the usual CD jewel case. The lyric booklet is part photo book with the lyric pages being mixed in with photo pages for the first half then the second half is just photos. There are five group shots then two sets of individual shots, so plenty to enjoy on the visual level.

Tracks:

1. Thank youじゃん! (Thank youJan!)
A really fun and poppy tune. It really makes me feel that Kisumai is shifting genres as they have been doing more standard pop songs like this with their more recent releases. It starts off with a good deal of energy that is carried through the entire song. The chorus has a nice catchiness to it, especially at the end. I love the use of instruments for the song instead of electronic beats as they add some nice flourishes in the music. While I do not think it is one of the group's stronger A-sides in the past year it is a nice little pop tune.

2. 君にあえるから (Kimi ni Aeru kara)
I really enjoy this B-side, which is a basic pop tune. It starts soft and mid-tempo but with the chorus the music swells and we get the highlight of the track. I would probably put this song on about the same level as the title track, though the chorus is slightly less catchy. And I love how it ends softly, making stand out from the other tracks on the single. It does make use of bells to give it a hint of Christmas flair and the lyrics revolved around that time of the year but not as overtly as the next two songs.

3. Holy night with you
Seeing as this single was released on Christmas eve the two bonus B-sides have strong seasonal connections, with this song being the first. While Kimi ni Aeru kara went lite with the use of bells they are going strong in this song. What I really love about this song is that it really sounds like there are more than three members in the group for a change. Sure Thank youJan has solo lines for those who are not Kitayama Hiromitsu, Fujigaya Taisuke and Tamamori Yuta but the harmonizing in this song goes beyond the usual standard for Kisumai and makes it sound like it is more than the main vocalists singing it.

4. Christmas Kiss
This song has the strongest traditional Christmas song overtones with a bit of an old school sound. It really takes the chorus for it to hit its stride, the verses just do not stand out and seem rather bland, especially compared to the chorus that holds some fun energy. The only exception is the third verse that comes with a change up in the music that keeps the energy of the chorus up the whole time and leads to a stronger end to the song than the rest of it. Overall it is nice enough but not a song I would put on a playlist until around Christmas when I start listening to Christmas themed songs.

Overall: I was not expecting much from this single as I felt with its release date it would end up being Christmas related. I was a bit off the mark as only the bonus B-sides had the direct Christmas link with the other two songs being more standard pop. And I do like that the group as a whole gets some lines and the split has been reduced quite a bit. I just hope this continues as the group goes on.

But while there are some nice tracks on this single it is not a favorite of mine. There just is not a lot that is really stand out about it. I am looking forward to their next single and hopefully it will not be much longer after that we get their next album.

Double Kansai Johnny's release day

April 22nd will be the release date for two Johnny's acts, Nakayama Yuma will be releasing a new single that day and Johnny's WEST will have a mini-album. Yuma's new single is titled YOLO moment and will have three versions, and JWEST's mini-album is titled Paripipo.

For the Yuma single the Limited Edition type A will have a DVD that will come with the PV of the title track and making of footage. It is noted that Yara Tomoyuki choreographed the dance for the song and Travis Japan will be the back dancers in the PV. The CD will have a still untitled B-side and the karaoke version of the title track.

The Limited Edition type B will have a DVD that will have footage from a special event Yuma did in Osaka that was a performance and talk. The run time for that is listed being about 40 minutes. The CD will have the same content as the other limited edition.

The Regular Edition will just be a CD that will have two B-sides not included on the limited editions. Those B-sides do have titles listed as, VOICE and Negaigoto.

There is a bundle of all three editions that you can get that has a special bonus for getting all three together. That bonus is a denim pouch.

For the JWEST mini-album the Limited Edition will have a DVD that has footage from the release event at Yokohama arena they did for their first album. It is listed as running for about 60 minutes and the full track list is up at Johnny's net. The CD will have five tracks with only the first having a title, Paripipo Anthem. It will also have a 8-page booklet.

The Regular Edition is just the CD but with two bonus tracks as well as a 12-page booklet.

There is also a bundle to get both but the only bonus is the bonus you get for the individual releases, a clear file for each one.

I honestly cannot take Yuma's single title seriously at all, but that's okay. As long as the song is on the same level as his previous single I will be happy, and there is always the B-sides.

I do find the fact that the JWEST release is a mini album and not a full album interesting. Especially since it has none of the single tracks of the past two singles on it. But honestly I am rather happy with that as it means more new music from the group. Though it does make me wonder if this means that later this year we will get a full album from the group after another single release or two that will have those single tracks on it.

Though with the title of the first track on the JWEST mini-album I can only assume that the upcoming tour name will be the same as this release. I am curious to see it be explained, as in what it is meant to mean.

Either way I am happy that my prediction of their being a new release from Yuma and JWEST to go with their upcoming concert tours was right.

Covers are out as well as the rest of the information about Nakayama Yuma's upcoming single, YOLO moment. The title of his upcoming concert tour is also out now.

LE A

LE B
The coupling track for the limited editions of the single is title Kao. It is exclusive to those editions.

Apparently the untitled B-side on the regular edition will be another song that is not included on the limited editions. It is titled Friday Night ~Konna Mirai~.

His tour title has been announced to be Nakayama Yuma Chapter 1: Utaou ze! Odorou ze! YOLO ze! Tour.

While I still don't care for the use of YOLO, I do like the covers for this single. I am surprised to find that the untitled song on all the editions is not the same for all of them. For me this means I am going to have to get one of the LEs now, as I try to get all the songs from an artist I like. But since I already put my pre-order in for the RE I will probably have that in another batch of pre-orders.

In any case I am looking forward to this release so April cannot come soon enough really.

Tegomass no Seishun concert video release

The home video release for Tegomass' last concert tour, Tegomass no Seishun, is set to come out May 13th. It will come out on both DVD and BD formats with each format having the same two editions. All editions have a pre-order bonus of a clearfile, a different version for the REs and LEs.

The regular editions will have the concert filmed at Yokohama Arena and have a six minute documentary video.

The limited editions will have the same concert footage but will have a 100 minute documentary to include rehearsal footage, backstage footage and more. It will also come with a 52-page booklet.

I have to admit that the limited edition for this release sounds so much better than the regular edition. I mean how much of a documentary can one get for six minutes. Most making ofs for PVs are longer than that.

Even though I do not plan on getting this release I am glad to see that BD releases are becoming the norm finally for Johnny's concerts. With how visual they are it seemed a shame that Johnny's was dragging their feet when it came to putting out HD versions.

NEWS - A Release History introduction

I do not think I need to spend much time talking about how much I love NEWS. I have done so several times on this blog and various other places and if anything I have found a new way to share that love. And that simply is this project for this blog.

I will go over all their CD releases and give commentary about the releases, as what was going on with the group around the time of the releases and something about the releases as well. By doing this I hope to give a history of the group, mostly for those who may not be familiar with them.

I will be skipping solo and sub-unit releases though, just to help keep things simple mostly. Especially when a lot of the solo and special releases are tied to Yamashita Tomohisa, who is no longer a member of the group.

I plan on doing one release a week, so I can keep on schedule, and will finish things up with the latest release, whatever that may be when I get to it. So every Friday there will be a new entry for this project starting later today with NEWS Nippon. And if there are new CD releases by the group before I finish with this project it will just be added to this project.

NEWS - NEWS Nippon (debut single)

East version
While NEWS Nippon can be considered the group's debut single the fact it was not a typical release rather puts it in a grey area. It is officially the following single that is counted for a debut date for the group, as that is when the group officially became a group and that release was their first major release.

Getting back to NEWS Nippon itself though, this single was released only through 7-11 convenience stores, hence the issue of whether or not this can be counted as the official debut single of the group. It came out November 7th, 2003. There were two versions, East and West, with each being released in different parts of Japan. (East for Eastern Japan and West for Western Japan.) Each version had a different B-side for it, Ima, Arigato (which featured Moriuchi Takahiro, Masuda Takahisa and Tegoshi Yuya) for East and Private Hearts (which featured Koyama Keiichiro, Kusano Hironori and Kato Shigeaki) for West.

Private Hearts was a song for the Junior group that Koyama, Kusano and Kato were members of, K.K.Kity. The group was one of the Junior groups that Domoto Koichi from Kinki Kids had a hand in creating and the lyrics for this song were written by him.

The title track was used as the official theme song for the FIVB tournament that NEWS was made the official supporters of in connection of it. It made them the third group, after V6 and Arashi, to have their debut in connection to the sports event.

When the group and single were announced in September 2003 it was not made known that this would be a permanent group. Even the group members were in the dark about this, especially since Nishikido Ryo and Uchi Hiroki still were active with their Kansai Junior group, Kanjani8. The others who had Junior groups (Yamashita Tomohisa with 4TOPS and Koyama, Kusano and Kato with K.K.Kity) also remained with those groups as well as performing as NEWS during this time.

Though those chosen out of their groups were some of the more popular members of them, especially Yamashita (Yamapi) who was one of the most popular Juniors of that time. Masuda had been a Junior for some time and Moriuchi had been getting pushed by the agency in the months prior. Tegoshi Yuya was relatively unknown, as he had only joined the agency about four months before this.

There is no sales record for the single because of its special release status but one can assume it must have done well enough for Johnny's to debut the group officially in the following year.

Taking a guess for Kis-My-Ft2's 2015 releases

$

0
It seems like the idols I follow are all in a lull phase where there is not much going on, or at least nothing as a foreign fan can really enjoy. So I have begun to try to guess when the next releases for them may happen and honestly Kis-My-Ft2 is the only group I feel that I can guess with any kind of accuracy.

My guess is basically up next it will be an original album from the group followed by the usual single release in August and possibly another single in November.

Last year it looked like they wanted to switch up the release schedule by having a single collection album being released in March instead of the usual original album. Of course that just was a delay for the annual original album from the group as it was released in July. Since that album there has been three single released for Kisumai and two for Busaiku so an album release this July would make sense. Or even late June, but with Kitayama Hiromitsu and Fujigaya Taisuke busy with stage productions in May, with Fujigaya's running to the end of the month, it may not be enough time to record everything. Especially as there are the main vocals of the group. That is of course if there has not been some production done for it already.

The big indicator will be a concert tour announcement, as Kisumai is a group that tours when they have a new album out. So if there is an album coming this summer we should first get a concert tour announcement preceding one for a new album.

There has yet to be a year that Kisumai has not released a single in the first half of August and I do not see this year being the exception. This will be the fourth anniversary of the group's debut and seeing as they had a special anniversary edition last year I can see there being one for this year too.

The only issue would be that it could be cutting it close for Kitayama, as he has the overseas Takizawa Kabuki shows in Singapore to do starting the 18th of that month. But if they wrap up promotion for the single quickly it may not be too much of an issue. Or if they release it on the 5th and not the 12th. Though they have kept this August single release as close to the release date of their debut single, August 10th, so the latter is more likely for the release date based on that.

Also it has been announced that Tamamori Yuta will be starring in a drama that begins airing in October so I will assume that the group will do the theme song for it. That said I can see that being for the usual single release near the end of the year, and they have released two of those in November so the timing would work out for it.

So basically my guess is that we get a new album most likely in July with a slight chance for late June. Then the usual anniversary single release in August, with the 12th being the more likely date. And to finish up the year a single in November.

Of course there could be a new Busaiku single thrown in there somewhere, but those are much harder to place as they do not really follow a pattern. I just doubt we will get one before the next album drops.

NEWS - Kibou ~Yell~ (1st major single)

Limited edition
Officially this single is considered to the the group's debut single and it is either this release date or the date that the group was first announced that is used for anniversary dates for them. This is their first major release and the first to chart on the Oricon chart.

The title track of the single was used as the theme song for the 2003 Volleyball World Cup

Between the previous single and this one Moriuchi Takahiro left the agency and the group continued on as an eight member unit.

By this time Yamashita Tomohisa, Koyama Keiichiro, Kusano Hironori and Kato Shigeaki were no longer being placed with their Junior groups, which signaled the disbandment of K.K.Kity but 4TOPS continued on as 3TOPS for a while longer. Nishikido Ryo and Uchi Hiroki though were still allowed to remain members of Kanjani8, as that group was picking up in popularity which would later lead to a debut later in the year.

While Masuda Takahisa did not have a prior Junior group he was in before NEWS he was asked to join one post-debut. He was a member of Kis-My-Ft. (which would later change membership to become Kis-My-Ft2) as they needed someone who could roller skate, a main feature for the group. But he was not always present for Kis-My-Ft. activities as NEWS was his priority.

The B-side Stand Up was actually performed by several of the members of NEWS before the group was even announced (see the October 5th, 2003 Shounen Club episode). It was an English version of the song though but it had the same title.

The single topped the Oricon charts at number one which began their streak of number one singles from their debut.

This is the last single released for the group in 2004. The month after this Kanjani8 made their debut and Nishikido Ryo and Uchi Hiroki debuted for a second time with that group.

Of course the title track is another song used to promote women's volleyball coverage as the FIVB groups get tied to that quite a bit for their early years.

It features a poem that was written by Yamashita Tomohisa. The song itself is based off another song, The Way Home by Phasio, with the same composers working on this one.

Also of note about this single is that the limited edition of the single has a B-side exclusive to it. This song, DREAMS, is a special one as when the group came back from their hiatus to promote their comeback concert DVD release the performance of this song was used as a promotional video. This was probably because it was a rather emotional performance for the group, Koyama Keiichiro breaks into tears at one point.

6tones!!!!!!

$
0

In a recent Crea concert it was announced that the six Juniors that made up the unofficial group Bakaleya6 are now an official Junior group, 6tones.

Top row left to right: Juri, Taiga, Yuugo, Hokuto
Bottom row left to right, Jesse, Shintaro
This group for those who may be unfamiliar will consist of Kouchi Yuugo, Kyomoto Taiga, Tanaka Juri, Matsumura Hokuto, Jesse and Morimoto Shintaro. They all were the main male leads in the Shiritsu Bakaleya Koukou drama, hence the unofficial name of the Bakaleya6. Since that drama they had some early work with that grouping of six with performances and Junior concerts but it became an off and on thing but it looks like Johnny's must have noticed that they remained popular as an unofficial unit with fans and decided to officially group them.

While this is mostly my own speculation but I think it makes a lot of sense for Johnny's to do that. After a glut of debuts in the past few years it looks like they are slowing things down. In fact with Sexy Zone being the FIVB supporters for this year it looks like we probably will not be getting a new group to debut with that like usual. Unless they plan on creating something out the the Juniors that make up the Sexy Family grouping that also looks to be a part of it. But even that aside it has been years without a strong Junior group for the agency to line up for eventually debut.

Of course it is not like there are no other Junior groups but Johnny's support of those that are still around like Snow Man and Travis Japan has been rather weak. Trying to ramp things up for a debut for them now does not seem like the way they want to go or they would be pushing them more now. And with Snow Man I fear they ended up with bad timing as they had the two most popular members of their group taken out and are at the ages where debut looks difficult. Though at least they have Takizawa Hideaki supporting them, but even that can go so far if the group is not able to expand their presence elsewhere. While Travis Japan is still rather new and it looks like Johnny's is using that to their advantage to take popular members from the group for other projects if they see fit.

6tones though I feel can go the distance and get a good push to a debut in a couple years time. The members of the group have had various individual work, like drama and stage roles, and did still get concerts with the grouping as headliners for Junior concerts, in fact it was at one of those concerts that this announcement was made. Of course they need to be seen more as a group to really get a good following behind them. But they have a head start with the fact that they have kept fans for their grouping over the years. Not to mention that they have all had plenty of time in the agency to get strong individual fan followings, especially as at least half the group have had strong pushes in the past.

Of course if they end up debuting as a group like KAT-TUN and Kis-My-Ft2 before them I am certain it will at least be about two more years before that. One thing that all recent Junior group debuts have had in common is that as older debut groups all the members have been 20 years old or older, so 6tones will have to wait for Shintaro to turn 20 in about two years. So I would guess a 2017 or 2018 debut for the group if it happens.

And it may be for the best as by then I doubt many will recall Morimoto Ryutaro (sadly enough) or at least not in a meaningful way outside of once being in Johnny's and being Shintaro's older brother. And also the scandal surrounding Tanaka Koki hopefully will have died down enough not to be much of a shadow over Juri. (Maybe this will mean Juri will no longer be forced into the "rapper" role, which would personally make me happy.)

Before then there needs to be more signs that Johnny's is serious about this group by promoting them fully. Like having them perform on Shounen Club regularly (with original group songs), and keeping members active with both group and individual work especially getting drama roles. Since Shintaro will be graduating from high school in the coming year, and he's going to Horikoshi anyway, everyone should have rather free schedules, as those attending university still will have more flexible schedules than they did as high school students.

I really do think this group has potential to have a strong debut, I have since they were first grouped together as the Bakaleya6. But the agency has to make sure they pave the road towards it or 6tones will be with the rest of the current Junior groups, mostly neglected.

The first single that is not a volleyball tie-in. Instead the tie-in is for a commercial that Yamashita Tomohisa was featured in. This is also the final single before the group's debut album.

Yamapi was easily the most popular member of the group while he was in it and it was not uncommon for the group to have tie-ins with his solo work. This single of course is the first for this.

It was released before their summer concert tour in 2005 which not only had the group performing in more cities than they had before but also at Yokohama Arena for the first time since their debut. Previous concerts had them mainly performing in halls and other similar sized venues.

Limited edition
The group's debut album and the only album that has the group at eight members. The album collected the title tracks of all their previous singles from NEWS Nippon to Cherish and came in two editions.

Tthis release is the first CD that has a track on it written by a member of the group. The song Love Song was written, both music and lyrics, by Yamashita Tomohisa.

The album track Yume no Kazu Dake Ai ga Umareru will have the regular version of the song released as a B-side on the group's next single, Teppen. This song is also featured on the DVD that comes with the album's limited edition.

The limited edition came with a DVD that had a few features on it. It is the first DVD bonus that NEWS has for a CD release. Probably the most noteworthy is that each of the members were filmed doing "dates" for fans. Other than that there is some short concert footage and each member has a filmed message about the album.

The regular edition has two bonus tracks which are both remixes, one of their single Cherish and another of the Kibou ~Yell~ B-side Stand Up.

It debuted number 1 on the charts and became the first NEWS album to chart at number 1 for the debut sales week.

Kis-My-World

As I had predicted Kis-My-Ft2 will be releasing their annual album in July this year, specifically July 1st. It will be titled Kis-My-World and will come in three editions (not including the editions only available through the Japanese only online stores), two limited editions and a regular edition.

The first limited edition will come with a DVD and two CDs. The first CD is the main album that will have 15 tracks in total which will include four duet songs with the groupings for it: Kitayama Hiromitsu & Fujigaya Taisuke, Tamamori Yuta & Miyata Toshiya, Nikaido Takashi & Senga Kento and Yokoo Wataru & Fujigaya Taisuke. The second CD will be a live album with audio from their Kis-My-Journey concert tour last year. The DVD will have a music video for a new song plus special footage for the members of the group including documentary footage for the duos.

The second limited edition will also come with a DVD and two CDs. The first CD is the same as the other limited edition. The second CD will be a remix CD of 13 of their songs from past singles, albums and even pre-debut songs. The DVD will have the multi-angle version of the music video, the making of for it and digest footage from a release event and a making of footage for that.

The regular edition will have the same 15 tracks as the limited editions plus two bonus tracks. The first press edition comes with digipak packaging.

I am of course rather excited for this. Even though there are B-sides being included in the track list the inclusion of the bonus CDs feels like they make up for that. In fact I think I will probably go ahead and get all three versions. The limited editions I will pre-order while the regular edition I will probably pick up later when I can afford it.

But I love that Kisumai is getting to try new things with the bonus CDs for the limited editions. And form the pairings for the unit songs it looks like they are throwing in some fanservice as well.

I am surprised that they have not announced a tour to go with the album yet, but I will assume they will soon enough. And with this it does indeed look like Kisumai has moved to albums and touring in the summer, which is usually one of the bigger seasons for concert tours outside of around the New Year.

NEWS will be releasing a new single shortly after their tour wraps up in June. The title is Chumu Chumu (or Tyumu Tyumu by CDJapan's romanization of it) and it will be released June 24th. It will come in three editions and there is a bundle available for those who want to get all three. Also the first press bonus this time around is a B2 sized poster, a different one to go with each version of the release.

The first limited edition comes with a DVD. It will only have the title track and a B-side that will be on all other editions of the release on the CD. The DVD will have the PV for the title track plus the making of and will be about 30 minutes long.

The second limited edition is CD only and will have the two tracks on the 1st LE as well as a bonus B-side not on any of the other editions. It will also have a set of four photo cards.

Then the regular edition will have the two tracks the other two versions have plus two bonus B-sides not on either of them. It will also have a karaoke version of the title track.

The bundle this time is just an easy way to order all three editions as it does not come with anything extra for it.

Seeing the break down of the different editions for this release is the same as their previous single, KAGUYA, I am thinking this will most likely be the standard for the group going forward. And that suits me fine as getting five new songs from the group with each single is great and of course it is nice to be getting DVDs with the PV on them for NEWS after going so long before they began doing that.

I pre-ordered my bundle immediately as NEWS is a group that when they have something that is limited it actually is and thankfully I can afford it. I am really excited about the bonus posters as I really love posters and have wanted a NEWS poster for a long time. Now I will have three, though depending on how much I like the designs I may not keep them all. But I am certain with three different versions there will be one I will like at least.

Between this release and Kis-My-Ft2's new album the summer is starting off great for me when it comes to Johnny's.
