I had been waiting for this group to debut for years and so far I have not been disappointed. Outside of the fact that I really would love to see a new single being announced. For some reason the wait always feels way too long between a debut single and the following one.

That said it is great to see that the members of the group are being kept busy with dramas and the programs they are regulars on. Sure I would love to see more, but as they are just starting off just the fact that it is not just their members that they are pushing to the center of the group. I hope this keeps up and the group does not fall into the same pattern of only a couple of members getting much work and the rest just hanging around until there is a concert or music release.

I love this group and cannot wait to see what their future brings. And I hope with this summer we will be getting that next single release.

Not stuttering, Busaiku gets a 2nd single

A couple of days ago a rumor popped up about Kis-My-Ft2's sub-unit, Busaiku, getting a 2nd single to be released at the end of July. Yesterday it was confirmed when information about it came out on Kisumai's Avex page and it is now up for pre-order at the usual places. The title of the single is  てぃーてぃーてぃーてれって てれてぃてぃてぃ~だれのケツ~ (and I'm not going to attempt to Romanize it, even CDJapan didn't bother) and it will be released on July 27th.

The limited edition Type A is the standard limited edition that comes with a DVD. The DVD has the usual PV and making of feature listed as its tracks. The CD itself will have the title track and the karaoke version of it.

The limited edition Type B is basically the no frills version. It has the same track listing as the other versions and does not advertise coming with anything special. It is about half the price of the regular edition to make up for that though.

The regular edition is the same as Type B but will have a mini photo booklet that will come with the release.

There is a Kisumai Store version as well, but like always one needs to have a Japanese address to purchase it.

Personally I am rather excited for this. It helps make up for the fact that the Busaiku song on the upcoming Kisumai album was just their previous single song. And of course I enjoyed that song, a lot more than I thought would actually, so I look forward to this new one. Especially since Nakai Masahiro will once again be producing everything.

Of course I am all for anything that lets the Busaiku four get themselves some time in the spotlight. There was notable improvement in their popularity after their first single and I hope that will continue if the keep releasing singles. Then perhaps the gap they face with Kisumai will start to really lessen.

Fan Status 2014: Johnny's Junior

I really miss the days of prominent Junior groups. Sure there are plenty of Juniors that I am interested in and enjoy watching but it seems harder to keep track of them as they are getting constantly shuffled around.

I still have high hopes for the Bakaleya6, even if the grouping is basically non-existant these days. But I like all six individually and still think they all have a lot of promise, even they end up debuting separately.

Lately I have come to like Iwahashi Genki and Jinguji Yuta. As someone who is usually shy I can feel like I can relate to Genki a bit. And seeing him trying to push past his shyness is encouraging. Jinguji is not the kind of idol I usually care for but I feel every group needs someone who is willing to put himself out there, which he seems to have no issue with doing. In fact it is those traits combined that I think makes Jinguji and Genki a good match for a group. And I have a lot of faith that these two will get a debut in a matter of time with how they have been steadily pushed for a while.

Of the other Juniors I do not have many that I feel as attached to. Sure there are plenty that I enjoy watching on the shows but in general I think I would be happy if any of them debut. Which is something that frustrates me is that there are so many talented Juniors that could do well after they debuted but there is no way to debut them all without over saturation.

The only Junior that is starting to catch my notice is Nakamura Reia. While he has been a Junior for some time he did not stand out much to me before. Probably in part because he was one of the younger Juniors and outside of thinking they are adorable I am not interested in them much. So now that Reia is older my interest is growing. Right now I think he has a lot of potential that hopefully will be utilized as he gets chances to participate in activities, like Gamushara.

As it is I feel like I am better off just vaguely knowing most of the Juniors and wait until the next debut to start dedicating time in getting to know them better. I do not care for that as being a fan of Kis-My-Ft2 and the members of Johnny's WEST before their debuts has made their debut announcements so special to me. Especially Kisumai. With Junior groups getting constantly shifted, if they exist at all, I know that there is little to no chance of getting to feel that joy again anytime soon.

Shifting schedules a bit so I can work on catching up with things so I can then get ahead as I am going to be busy with family in the upcoming Fourth of July weekend. That said here is the belated review for this episode.

This episode opens up with a medley that also works as an introduction for all the Kansai Junior groups. It is nice to have this as not only do we get all the names of the groups but each group gets to perform on their own in the medley. This also confirms that Shadow WEST does exist at this point with Mukai Koji and Kaneuchi Toma being the prominent members of that group.

The usual hosts and show supporters then go on stage to introduce the theme of the episode, power. They tease about having a special guest show up in the following performance.

The performance has Koyama Keiichiro and Nakamaru Yuichi perform short medleys of their group songs. They do have Kanjuu performing with them. The final song they bring out the special guest of the episode, who was the special guest of the previous episode, Yokoyama Yu.

He gets to have an MC with the hosts but with the members of Veteran getting to hang out in the background. Yoko makes sure to bring them into the conversation which ends up with them talking about how Kanjani8 are as sempai to the Kanjuu.

Yoko with Veteran as his back dancers performs a live only song, Chocolate. It is a collaboration piece with Yasuda Shota writing the music while Yoko wrote the lyrics to it. It is a fun song to watch being performed as it has some interesting choreography to go with it.

Then there is a Gekkan Koyamaru segment and Koyama is up for this month. His photo is a group shot of NEWS, from back when the group was six members of course. He talks about them, specifically Masuda Takahiro and Kato Shigeaki.

We then get a medley from the Kanjuu group BOYS. Of note this was the group that Hamada Takahiro was in before the other half of the duo quit Johnny's and Hamada was left on his own. In the end we can now say everything worked out for Hamada but I do wonder if things would be different if Nakata Daichi remained in Johnny's.

Yara Tomoyuki then gets to perform and he does Now and forever. He gets to have Hamanaka Bunichi to perform with him so there are two-fifths of Butokan in this. Three other Kanjuu also perform with them so they can have a roster of five for it. Of note Kamiyama Tomohiro and Fujii Ryusei are two of those.

The game segment is Jumping Paradise, so not many Juniors to be found. But it is set up to let Nakama Junta get a retry at a challenge that he did in an earlier episode of the season. The three Hey! Say! JUMP members and Junta have to try to skip rope with a small Junior on their back. Hardly the safest of games but luckily no one wipes out for this.

There is then a collaboration performance with B.A.D., BOYS and Veteran for the song BIG GAME. As expected there is a lot of energy with this song and while there are quite a few Kanjuu performing everyone gets a moment of focus.

This is followed by a Kansai Junior ni Q segment, with a part 2 for the past topic of the meaning behind their names. Most of the Kanjuu this time I do not recognize at all and have no clue if they are still with Johnny's or not. Outside of Mukai Koji though, who is still with Johnny's.

Then we get a letter exchange segment between two members of 7WEST, Shigeoka Daiki and Takemoto Shinpei. Shinpei quit Johnny's some time ago, in fact IIRC he will no longer be with Johnny's by the next set of Osaka episodes come along. Shigeoka of course has done well as he made his debut with Johnny's WEST.

Of course with Nakayama Yuma around it means that 7WEST is not going to get a chance to perform without him. So they join him in performing their group song Kimi no Wana dake Maboroshi demo Kamawanai.

And we have hit the end of the episode after that. We have the Kanjuu performing Yuuki 100%, lead by Yuma of course. It is at least a good way to ensure that the episode ends on an energetic note and it is the older and younger Kanjuu onstage for it.

At this point fans of Johnny's WEST cannot go wrong with the Osaka episodes if they want to see the members of the group pre-debut. This is basically the years that those members started to get steady pushes from the Kansai side of things and start to become more prominent.

Knowing how little of the Kanjuu we will get for some time it makes me glad that they do eventually get more time on the program. Though right now it only seems to be a small handful of them but at least that can be explained away with the fact that the JW debut has left a rather large vacuum of popular Kanjuu.

And we return to Tokyo and find that not much has changed, as usual.

We get the theme of the episode announced right off the bat for this episode as the Hey! Say! JUMP supporters, Arioka Daiki, Nakajima Yuto and Takaki Yuya. introduce the main Juniors of the episode. The theme is Takaramono (treasure). Most just get a quick dance until the two main groups get their introduction, Kis-My-Ft2 and A.B.C-Z. They sing Sayaendo with Koyama Keiichiro.

While it is uncommon for the hosts to be in the opening performance the why is made clear quickly as the guest for the episode, Ueda Tatsuya, shows up at the end. He performs GOLD and of course has Nakamaru Yuichi join him for it.

The opening talk has them go over the theme of the episode. In another small change from the usual they actually have a Junior to discuss it briefly, Morimoto Shintaro. He talks about something he treasures that he got from his mother when he joined Johnny's.

The following medley is really only for the younger Juniors with Hip Hop Jump performing Lucky Man then Shintaro with Snow Prince Gasshodan performing two songs afterwards. The transition between Lucky Man and Miagete Goran Yoru no Hoshi o is harsh as they are completely different genres, with the former having a rock-y edge to it and the latter being more of a slow tempo folksy kind of song. Still it is nice seeing HHJ performing something as a group solo, as they are one of the Junior groups that never seem to get much screen time on their own.

B.I.Shadow is up for the first MC segment of the episode. Each member gets to talk about something that they treasure. Kikuchi Fuma gets vague with "everyone who has influenced him", Nakajima Kento lists Music and Matsumura Hokuto goes with the safe answer of family. Kochi Yugo's I did not fully understand but it seemed to be about a family photo with his grandparents from what I could understand.

I will not lie but I was disappointed that BIS did not perform on their own next but instead performed with Nakajima Yuto for Mayonaka no Shadow Boy. The BIS members do get a good amount of camera time, but there is no reason why they could not have performed the song on their own.

We get Jumping Paradise as a talk segment this episode. They talk about which breed of dog each member of Hey! Say! 7 resembles and give the reasons as to why.

Yara Tomoyuki is still getting somewhat regular screen time on the program as he has a performance this episode, Next Dream. This is performed with They Budo, so the dance like usual is the highlight of it.
Next is the guest MC with Ueda. With the amount of necklaces he has on he kinda looks like a six year old that got into their mother's jewelry case. The fake jewels on his outfit do not help shake that image either. The conversation mainly focuses on the concert tour KAT-TUN had.

Of course we get a solo performance from Ueda. Thankfully his choice in music is better than his choice in costumes. He performs RABBIT OR WOLF? which is a song he wrote both the music and lyrics for. He really looks like he would have no trouble fronting a visual kei band.

This is followed by a Gekkan Koyamaru segment with Nakamaru getting to share photos. Of course this means photos of KAT-TUN so he can talk about them. Like the talk with Ueda this was also mostly focused on the group's then recent tour.

Speaking of Junior groups that fail to get much screen time on their own, Mis Snow Man falls into that category easily. While they are part of the REAL DX performance with KisuEbi they are mostly stuck in the back for the whole thing. That is when they are on stage as they join in after the song has started and really just felt they were tacked onto this when comparing their part of the performance to the members of KisuEbi.

It is then time for for the Junior ni Q. Not straying far from previous topics this one is about what the Juniors thought of when they think of autumn. Hashimoto Ryo and Haba Yuki are brought over together first as their answers were acorns and pinecones.

Casey Anderson gets to talk about Halloween, which anyone familiar with Western culture would also probably list as something they think of for the autumn. Of course the holiday is just a novelty in Japan so Casey gets to explain some of the traditions that come with it.

Then Tanaka Juri gets to explain why he answered with studying. Koyama has him show about where he falls in his class when it comes to his grades as well.

Fujigaya Taisuke finishes the segment up with his discussion of why clothing with checkered patterns made him think of autumn. It does move a bit to talk about fashion in general though.

The HSJ three get to then get an MC segment where they talk about things that are treasures to them. Yuto of course picks drums, Arioka went with an autograph he received from Kimura Takuya and Takaki's I could not completely get other than it had something to do with a photo.

The HSJ supporters then perform the single medley off of their debut album. I rather love how they remixed the songs for this medley so it was nice to see it being performed. And they did at least use a lot of younger Juniors as back dancers for it.

It is then time to wrap up the program and we get the Juniors performing PRECIOUS ONE. We do get a good mix of them in this performance and since it is a KAT-TUN song eventually Ueda and Nakamaru show up to perform with them.

It is starting to become clear to me that the change of having the most recently debuted groups be included in the program was actually something that started with this season. Back when the whole HSJ as supporters started I just assumed that it was something in the way of making the transition of hosts for the show go more smoothly, especially as no one from HSJ was known for their MC ability. But seeing how much screen time they have had since it started and knowing it is only going to increase as the years go by have made me realize that this is when the program started to be less a Junior program to a Junior and younger debuted groups program.

Of course back then it was easier to take having HSJ on the show, they were only one group and we had prominent Junior groups like Kisumai and Ebi that were too popular to just shove into the background. But now that there are three debut groups to also be featured it is hard to ignore. Thankfully there are the Gamushara shows now so the Juniors do still have something to mostly feature them, as Shounen Club is no longer that program.

Johnny's WEST debut album!

It has been announced that the next release from Johnny's WEST will be an album. It is still untitled but the release date is set for August 6th. It will come in two editions as well as a bundle for them both.

The limited edition will come with a DVD that has a good list of content for it. It will have album recording footage, a special interview, the footage from the jacket shooting for their debut single Ee Jyanai ka, footage from their debut event, a music video of the song Banzai Yume Mansai! with a making of and a dance version of their debut PV.  The CD will have ten tracks in total and will come with a 16-page booklet.

The regular edition comes with a 24-page booklet and four bonus tracks on the CD for a total of 14 songs.

Both come with clear files, each version has a different one and both are included in the bundle set which has both versions of the single.

I am so excited for this. I was really only expecting another single so getting an album so soon is great. And it makes sense as the concerts they did prior to their debut did mention that the group already had an album's worth of material. I am assuming that this album will be mostly those songs.

That said I do also wonder if this is also easier to release with how many Johnny's releases are coming out this summer so this way JW will not have to compete against another group or even a non-Johnny's artist that may get better sales. It is set to release on the same day as Kanjani8's upcoming single.

In the end I am still super happy about this and hope to have the funds to pre-order it soon. I just got enough together to make my order for the upcoming Kis-My-Ft2 and Busaiku releases so it will have to be a new order.

Fan Status 2014: Kansai Juniors

I am glad that Johnny's had the forethought to start promoting some of the younger Kansai Juniors before Johnny's WEST debuted, or things would have looked rather bleak for the Kanjuu in general.

These days Kin Kan and Naniwa Oji have to carry the Kanjuu for now until we get some other Kanjuu pushed. I will assume though it probably will be a while, like when the next FIVB group debuts so they can make a Kanjuu version that they can slap "West" on the name of.

It seems like Johnny's has picked their favorites in Hirano Sho and Nagase Ren though and they are getting a lot of pushing. I do not mind it too much for now but I do hope they start introducing more of the Kanjuu. JW's debut means that most of the Kanjuu are unknown to fans who only watch them on the Junior programs. (Like me.)

So I would love to learn more about the remaining Kanjuu, and not just the couple Johnny's seems willing to pay for them to come over to Tokyo to film Shounen Club performances.

And that wraps up my fan status reports for 2014. Hopefully I will have my laptop back this time next weekend and I can find another project to do to keep the posts coming for this blog.

Another Future for Kis-My-Ft2

It has been announced that Kis-My-Ft2 will be releasing a new single on August 13th. The title of the single is Another Future, which will be the theme song for Tamamori Yuta's summer drama Nobunga no Chef 2. It will have the standard release of a Kisumai single with two limited editions, a regular edition and a version that may only be purchased online if you have a Japanese address for it to be sent to.

The first limited edition will come with a DVD of the PV for the title track as well as the making of. The CD will have two songs on it, the title track and a song titled Perfect World.

The second limited edition will also come with a DVD. It will have a PV and making of footage for it for the B-side track, Perfect World on it. The CD will have the same two tracks as the first LE.

The regular edition will just be the CD, but it will have three tracks in total. The title of the B-side that will only be on this edition is Kanjiru Mama ni Kagayaite. The first press of the RE also comes with a bonus photo booklet.

Well I was certain we would get a single for the theme song for this drama and I was right. The drama is poised in doing well and the single could get some decent sales boosts from its airing if it does do as well as hoped.

Feels like we are being flooded with Kisumai releases after their third album getting released just this month and the Busaiku single later in July. But I will not complain too much as I do enjoy their music and this should give me plenty to listen to for a while, and there should be a bit of a gap before the next release hopefully. But it is an expensive time to be a Kisumai fan.

Magical Boy Cherry's first episode impressions

$

Even though I have a long list of drama series I need to catch up on I wanted to watch something new to start getting back into doing drama reviews. Thus I have begun to watch Magical Boy Cherry's, if mainly because it has only half-hour episodes and with its premise should be fun.

From the first episode I am very on the fence about it. There are signs that this could be a lot of fun to watch but there are also signs that it could be hard to get through at parts. Mainly when the show does not take itself too seriously and indulges in how silly it all is, it is a fun show to watch for just how off the wall it is. When it decides to be all serious though it loses its appeal and those parts I can see being hard to sit through at times. I just hope that the first half of this episode that was much of the latter was just part of a learning curve and now that all the characters are moving in the world of magic there will be much less of that.

The story so far focuses on Dougami Tetsu (Hashimoto Ryosuke), who is not very popular in school and has a missing older brother who was popular. Tetsu has a crush on a classmate but does not seem to have any plans about doing anything about that. He is also noticing that he can somehow read people's minds and that ability is what catches the attention of a group of mysterious individuals. This ends up leading him into the world of magic, but that is about where the episode ends. Tetsu really has little going for him other than he is broody. Hopefully his character will be given more personality than that as the series continues.

The other four members of A.B.C-Z do not get much screen time this episode. Yet I found them to be one of the highlights of the episode despite how small their parts were. Thankfully it looks like we should be getting more of them, especially Date Tsutomu, aka Ben (Totsuka Shota), as Tetsu recognizes him as a friend of his brother's.

To be honest I really did not think I would care to see anymore of this series until it got to the "battle" of the episode. Apparently in this world where only virgins can use magic the battles they have are dance battles. This is the scene that made me willing to commit to watch more as this is the over the top silliness that I was expecting and it delivered. I now can only imagine all other magic battles in other series being dance offs. And it is glorious.

Overall it is a rocky start for the series. It does show promise though so I will be willing to stick around for a couple more episodes at least. I believe if it is willing to embrace its silliness it really will shape up to be a fun series to watch, as series like this work best being as over the top as possible. So I hope to see more of that as the series progresses.

The Shounen Club 15 October 2010 review

So laptop is back finally but did not have all my Shounen Club episodes saved after all. Have most of the early years but these later ones not so much. Thankfully they are easy enough to replace, if just a bit time consuming. But I should be done with getting the collection back soon, as there is plenty I want to catch up on and need to replace but I since I need to do this first it is getting priority.

Again we get the theme of the episode at the start with it being Kidoairaku (human emotions, specifically joy, anger, pathos and humor). As they go through the four emotions with songs to match them the main Juniors and Junior groups are introduced. I was happy to see Kyomoto Taiga's grouping with Yasui Kentaro, Casey Anderson and Kawashima Noeru get some decent spotlight in this. They have been usually shuffled together with others so it is nice to see them on their own a bit.

The guest for the episode appears at the end of the medley like with the previous episode and we get Uchi Hiroki this time. I am really not a fan of the guy but I shall try to be as nice as possible for the sake of those who are fans.

There is the usual intro talk that goes over the theme of the episode again and introduces the hosts and supporters of the program. Uchi gets to say a couple of words before we move along to the next performance.

The performance has the three Hey! Say! JUMP supporters perform TIME, which is a song of the group's debut album which Takaki Yuya wrote the lyrics for. It is nice to have these performances for a large group like HSJ so you can clearly hear the voices of at least some of the members.

There is then a You no Otegami Yomitai Desu! segment, hosted by Kawai Fumito, Nakajima Kento and Fujigaya Taisuke. The first letter asks about a story regarding Kis-My-Ft2's Senga Kento during KAT-TUN's Taiwan concerts. Fujigaya relays the story that apparently there were Senga fans there that had bananas, I guess it was with the uchiwa for Senga, at the concert.

The next letter is one that gives things that certain Juniors look like. Tamamori Yuta and Miyata Toshiya are selected as Tamamori is compared to a mascot character and Miyata to an eggplant that looks like it has a nose.

There is then a Junior medley where they cover songs of sempai groups. Kyomoto gets a good showing as he sings to lead the first song in the medley with his quartet. The other Juniors featured in the medley are B.I. Shadow, Masuda Ryo and Takada Sho.

Next is an MC segment with A.B.C-Z. The members all get a chance to talk about one of the four emotions in the theme of the episode.

The group then performs their group song, Vanilla. At this point I feel certain that Ebi could do this song in their sleep with how often they perform it. But it is a good song and a good perform for the group.

We have the musical chair game and already I know this is going to be a blast. Uchi is there as a judge, but this really is not the kind of game you need a judge for. It is either the Junior gets himself on the chair or not. And they tend to be rather obvious if they try to cheat.

It is then time for the guest MC segment with Uchi. He gets to tell a story for three of the four emotions that make up the theme of the episode.

Uchi then performs in a medley with Question? It is nice to see Question? not being completely forgotten but I do believe this is the start of the group getting tied rather closely to Uchi.

There is then a Junior ni Q segment, going with things that one thinks of when they think of the fall/autumn. Kyomoto is doing well this episode when it comes to camera time. His answer deals with certain foods that are eaten in the fall.

Kochi Yugo gets a turn and talks about that since he loves summer the fall makes him feel down as it means the summer is over.

To finish things off it is Tamamori Yuta who answers with a fragrance of an olive. I did not get much out of it than that so I am not sure how that ties into autumn.

It is then an MC segment with about half of the members of Kis-My-Ft2. Each members gets to tell a story related to one of the four emotions in the theme of the episode. There is still quite a bit of talk about their recent trip to Taiwan as part of KAT-TUN's concerts there.

Kisumai then perform their group song Inori. It has been a while since they have performed this and I am glad to see it. Especially as it is considered to be one of their signature Junior-era songs.

It is then time to wrap up the episode. The final song performed is weeeek, and it is a great way to end the episode on a high note with lots of energy. Not sure how it ties into the theme but its still always a fun song.

Honestly I was okay with Uchi in this episode. I do not know what grates on me so about him but it is not constant so there are times I am fine with him. The only issue I had was that I do not care for the tone of his singing voice. It comes off whiny and thin, which is not a pleasant combination for my ears.

That aside it was a good episode with a good balance of debuted and Junior acts. And the musical chair game will always be a highlight for any episode it is in.

The Shounen Club 5 November 2010 review

I swear every time I am almost done with downloading a series of something I remember something else I wanted to watch but did not have the chance to. Thankfully I have recovered most of the Shounen Club episodes I had, and should be good for now with the episodes I have to keep myself on schedule from here on in.

The episode opens up with the usual medley that gives the viewers a glimpse of the main Juniors of the episode. From the song selection it could be guessed that it is a sempai medley, which it is, as the Juniors perform a song from one debuted group.

At the end the guests of the episode, NYC, enter the stage to perform the song NYC. I wish B.I. Shadow would have joined them for it, but I guess Johnny's wanted to make sure it was clear that NYC was just the trio of Nakayama Yuma, Yamada Ryosuke and Chinen Yuri.

It is the usual opening talk and we get introduced to the theme of the episode Tsunagari (connection). The theme is clarified for the episode in that they will be focusing on the connection of the sempai and kouhai in Johnny's.

With the sempai connection firmly in place the theme medley is another sempai medley like the opening performance. When they do songs for the debuted groups that have members present they join in so there is quite a bit of mixing of group members of debuted and Junior groups which is always interesting to see.

B.I.Shadow then get an MC segment where they talk about sempai they have connections to in various ways. Nakajima Kento of course brings up the sempai he admires, Yamada, but also Okamoto Keito who he talks about speaking English with. Kikuchi Fuma gives a story about having a run-in with Nakamaru Yuichi while Kochi Yugo talks about Yaotome Hikaru, who he is with on the School Kakumei variety program. Matsumura Hokuto brings up that Yamashita Tomohisa is his admired sempai but scores points with Koyama Keiichiro by telling him that he is his second favorite member of NEWS.

While labeled a B.I. Shadow medley it is because they are the group performing it all, not because of the songs which are all sempai songs. And the songs are from much older groups, like the Four Leaves, and not all the usual songs from such groups that are usually performed. Overall I enjoyed the medley, especially since all four members of the group got a good amount of screen time.

There is then a letter exchange between Kitayama Hiromitsu and Kawai Fumito. It is one of those segments I wish I had the subtitles for as the reactions sounded good from the audience. The one thing I did catch was that someone from the audience as Kawai was finishing his letter yelled out that he was cool and he thanked them, earning a questioning look from Kitayama and a good laugh from the audience. It was being able to deal with things like that in such a natural and at ease kind of way that made me think even back then Kawai would be great hosting a program.

A.B.C-Z and Kis-My-Ft2 then perform Daybreaker, which is considered to be the joint song for the two groups. While it is a good song and the performance is solid it seems to be lacking in something. Maybe it just needs a bigger stage or the fact that the two groups are capable of so much but the song does not really showcase that. But it does showcase how well the two groups get along and that does make it feel worth it to at least watch.

The game segment is a Johnny's song quiz, where they play the start of a Johnny's song and the participants have to guess the song and the artist correctly. They had four teams of three which gave us a good mix of Juniors playing and went through the game tournament style. The final round they changed things up where they played two different songs at the same time to make it more challenging. It definitely worked as usually one song could be heard rather clearly but the second was much harder to decipher. But it did make the round much more interesting than the first two.

While the Daybreaker performance may not have really let A.B.C-Z show what they were truly capable of their performance of Crush amends that. Not only do they get to show off what they are best known for, their acrobatics, but near the end Totsuka Shota gets to bring out a guitar and Hashimoto Ryosuke a mic to show off his vocal skills a bit more than usual.

There is a Kansai Junior ni Q segment following that. While I could find the words of the theme for it they make little sense to me together, but from the conversations I have to assume that it was about pointing out the good aspects in someone else. The only Kanjuu called up that I know is still with Johnny's is Hamanaka Bunichi. His words of praise are for Hamada Takahiro.

Having the only other MC segment of the episode is NYC. Like BIS they talk about sempai that they have some kind of connection with. For Yuma it was Kondo Masahiko, who he was in a drama with, and Kanjani8, as they are all from Kansai. Yamada of course brought up Domoto Koichi, who he has always admired. And if you know Chinen then there is no surprise whatsoever that he talked about Ohno Satoshi.

The trio then performed their song, Yoku Asobi Yoku Manabe. It is the typical NYC song, fun, energetic and encouraging. And it is the perfect excuse to use the younger Juniors for a performance, if only just to back dance.

The end song though was more of an older Junior affair as they performed Midnight Shuffle with debuted Johnny's. A perfect song to end on as it has a good amount of energy plus it helps tie-in the theme of the episode being a sempai song for everyone performing.

This was really a good SC episode. There was a good balance of debuted Johnny's and Juniors and all the segments were entertaining. The theme of the episode was mostly kept on track throughout the episode instead of being forgotten part of the through as well. Or basically everything I wish the series could currently be like.

Looking at the date for this I realize that we are getting closer to the end of the season for the program, which means the final episodes with Koyama and Nakamaru as hosts. I think that will really be the closing of an era when they leave.

Now back to downloading and hopefully watching some of these so I can do reviews for them.

So at the single announcement event for Sexy Zone's upcoming single it has been announced that it will only have three of the five members participating, Sato Shori, Kikuchi Fuma and Nakajima Kento. Yo Marius and Matsushima So will be sitting this out for reasons that seem completely superficial about members "getting stronger/better" by trying different things.

I may not consider myself a SZ fan but this still manages to piss me off. Maybe because I am a fan of some of the members of the group, with So being my favorite yet he gets shafted so often. At this point I would rather have him and Marius debut with another group where they will not be treated like redheaded step-children.

And it may seem weird since I am a Kis-My-Ft2 fan and they have a strong divide, but the back four are getting chances to do things on a consistent basis. No matter what one thinks of Busaiku it has given the four a way to get themselves out into the eyes of the public. And it has helped them as they are getting noticed by the general public instead of being stuck as the back dancers to the front three. So and Marius have not really had that chance, especially in a way that lets the general public get to see them and get to know them. Not to mention Kisumai had been around as Juniors for so long they all had fanbases that would follow them, while So and Marius were practically unknowns when they debuted and have had to try to build their fanbase as they went post-debut. Something that is hard to do when they are seen so little of.

Probably what frustrates me the most is that I could so easily be a SZ fan except for all these little things that ultimately turn me away. Especially with So being my favorite member of the group.

Morning Musume is scheduled to release a single the same day as this upcoming one, and I honestly hope they get the number 1 spot. As it is a send off for one of their members who decided to graduate to move on to the next stage of her career, which is much better than having members thrown under the bus in favor of others.

And I cannot help but wonder if maybe one of the other members of SMAP has enough free time to produce a side unit for one of his kouhai groups. I think there could be a lot of fun for Katori Shingo to team up with the younger two...

Did you think the last episode was lacking in guest performances? Never fear, this episode has plenty...

Things start off in the standard way with the main Juniors performing a song, WA ni Natte Odorou, as a way of introduction, though very few of them get their name/group name on the screen.

NYC is back as guests for this episode as they were in the last one and like last time show up at the end of the first performance to take over performing. They of course perform Yuuki 100%, as this is the era that the song is done to death.

The first talk actually lets the members of NYC speak a little this time before moving on to introduce the theme of the episode, Happy. Which is one of those theme that they would have to work really hard to screw up as Johnny's has plenty of songs about happiness to choose from.

The theme medley has the present members of groups whose songs are being covered join in the performance. Such as Koyama Keiichiro performing Happy Birthday with Kyomoto Taiga and Kawashima Noeru.

Between the songs of the medley the Hey! Say! JUMP supporters asks little Juniors what makes them happy. Not many are still with Johnny's but Hashimoto Ryo is one of those Juniors and I know he is still around.

The first MC segment is for NYC and all three members get to talk about things that make them happy. I was able to get that Yamada Ryosuke talked about a place in his room, not so sure about the other two.

NYC then performs the song they did last episode, Yoku Asobi, Yoku Manabe. There is not much change in the performance which makes me wish they performed another song, or at least a medley of some kind so it would not feel so redundant.

Next is the You no Otegami Yomitai Desu! corner, as we get a couple of new faces to be the hosts for it, Hashimoto Ryosuke and Senga Kento. The first letter is from a mother asking for advice about what to get her son for his birthday. The other letter I could not get what exactly it was about other than a girl needing some kind advice about her father.

There is then a collaboration performance for the Junior groups, Question? and Mis Snow Man, as they perform the song Running to the top together. It is nice to see the two groups get the chance to take the stage like this as neither has done so for some time. Question? is the lead in the performance as MSM does not appear on stage until about half way through the song.

No time is wasted with an MC segment as it moves to the next performance, Kis-My-Ft2 performing their song Kis-My-Calling! This is always a fun performance to watch as the guys are allowed to just have fun and do tricks with their roller skates that they would not really be able to fit in another performance. And since they have performed this song a few times they have audience interactions they can do with it in the way of fan calls.

Again there is not much time between performances as Yara Tomoyuki with They Budou are up next to perform a song called Gekkou. Not a song I care for but like usual the five put on a strong performance, though nothing exceptional for them.

If one wonders why there is just performance after performance they can finally get their answer as a special guest is announced for the episode, KAT-TUN. They perform Change Ur World, which is honestly one of my favorite songs from the group and I did not feel disappointed with the performance here.

There is finally an MC segment, with KAT-TUN of course. They joke about Taguchi Junnosuke being a "captain" because of a piece of cloth tied around his upper arm. Junno also manages to do his introduction bit, so overall he did well with the MC. The other members all got some time to talk as well as they are asked to talk about the theme of the episode.

Then it is time for the Junior ni Q segment where the topic is to talk about a "happy item". Nakajima Kento is up first and his answer was fan letters.

Tanaka Juri gets called over to explain answer of natto. During the conversation they end up calling Yasui Kentaro over as well to join in.

Then Kawashima Noeru get a turn as he talks about a letter that he keeps with him. If I got it right it was from his first year of high school. And that wraps up the segment.

We then get a Gekkan Koyamaru segment squeezed in. It is Koyama's turn this time so we get a picture of NEWS. This is from their last tour and they went out to eat together in Osaka.

Following that is a Junior medley, which focuses on the younger Juniors. Hip Hop Jump get to perform a song on their own, Magma, during it, which is a rarity for the group. But basically the medley is for them, Morimoto Shintaro and Snow Prince Gasshoudan.

Then it is time for the final performance of the show to wrap everything up. And we do so with Ultra Music Power, being lead by the half of HSJ that was present. Of course they are joined by some Juniors, but only as back dancers. Except for Nakayama Yuma who gets to actually join them in performing the song close to the end.

So while there were no short number of guests in the episode it felt like it was balanced out a bit with the fact that we got to see more of the Juniors that we normally do not see a lot of. The fact that they cut the usual MC segments to make sure they could get in all the performances helped a lot with that.

With how often KAT-TUN has been showing up on the program I get the feeling that Johnny's really wanted to cement the fact that the group was the five members it was then. Which I guess was to be expected as they had lost a member for the first time and with it being one of their main members they did need to rebrand a little.

Kamen Teacher first episode impressions

Alright, I am going to see about trying to catch up with my drama viewing finally. Hopefully I can at least do so with the late night NTV dramas first.

I have to say I am glad that this was an hour long episode. I was not very impressed with the first half of it and was not sure if I was going to like watching this until the second half kicked in. Most of it stemming from the fact that things were presented so black and white during that first half while the second went past that and started to highlight all the gray that the story should be exploring to keep it interesting.

Araki Goto (Fujigaya Taisuke) is a character who on the surface is rather straight forward and fits the shounen hero trope well. But thankfully he is more than that as we see that he is someone carrying guilt over his past actions as a Kamen Teacher as well as trying to find another way to deal with the mission he has been given. The fact that he is just so earnest in everything is endearing and I am cheering for him.

The students that it looks like that are going to be the main focus belong to a group called the M4, made up of Shishimaru (Kishi Yuta), Kotaro (Maeda Goki), Ryota (Yanagi Shuntaro) and Bon (Kyomoto Taiga), and then the one positioned above them, Takehara Kinzo (Kikuchi Fuma). Outside of Bon, who got some focus this episode there is not much to say about the rest as they just fill the usual yankee stereo-types for a school drama. But if Bon is anything to go by then they will break out of that and become much more interesting characters as they all get their turns facing the Kamen Teacher.

As I have already mentioned Bon gets the focus in the second half of the episode where we learn about why he became who he was and refused to believe in friendship. Kyomoto plays the role well and I do hope the character does not just get pushed to the side as the series goes on.

We also get Takada Sho playing the character pivotal to Bon's story, Imai Satoshi, and it is always nice to see him in something. Especially as he does seem to be the next Johnny's on the actor-track as he does not seem to be doing anything else these days.

There is not much to say about the love interest of the series, Ichimura Miki (Oomasa Aya), as she seems to mainly be there to give Araki the information he needs to understand what is going on with the school. There does seem to be some hope for her, in the fact that we at least get the feeling that she is someone who would like to be more like Araki with the amount of hope he has for his students, but had given up. Hopefully that gets to be explored more and she gets to become an actual character and not just a convenient plot device.

So basically the second half of the episode saved the series for me so far. I have my hopes returned that this is going to be a good watch and eagerly await to get into the rest of the series. Which I am going to go do right now because I do also need to make sure I can catch up with my drama viewing as I have the means and the time now.

Kamen Teacher mid-season impressions

I planned on watching an episode a day but this series has really won me over, so I should be done much sooner than I planned.

For a series that I had little faith in once I started watching it Kamen Teacher has really gotten me hooked. On the surface it is the usual teacher-reforms-a-delinquent-class drama that is popular in Japan but Kamen Teacher shines by taking it all another step further. Instead of merely winning the hearts of the students by a single confrontation it has to be won by doing much more than that. It may not be perfect in this front though, but it tries, which is something more to say than other dramas of its ilk.

Araki Gota (Fujigaya Taisuke) remains an interesting protagonist that is easy to want to cheer for. His steadfast belief in the way to help students is by reaching their hearts instead of forcing obedience by force is easy to empathize with. He is an easy to like hero, especially as they dialed back a bit with his overly cheerful and positive attitude, or I guess that was explained to be the face he tended to show to hide the deeper emotions he is feeling.

The pace has been brisk without being rushed. We have had each member of the M4 get their stories told and had their battle with at least one Kamen Teacher. But probably the best thing is that once those stories are told the characters do not just fall into the background. I am honestly surprised that at the half-way mark all have been "dealt" with as there are six more episodes to go. Yet from how this drama has been playing out I doubt they will just disappear from the story either.

Not sure if I feel like I should see Takehara Kinzo (Kikuchi Fuma) as someone more important than the rest of the students yet. I know he was played out to be a major character but I have not seen anything yet to really back that up. But there are still plenty of episodes left to see if that will change. If anything having his story tie with Shishimaru's (Kishi Yuta) did at least help give him a bit more screen time.

I was really glad that Ichimura Miki (Oomasa Aya) has been developed a bit as a character outside of simply being there to give Araki information he needs or as just the love interest. And I rather liked the fact that she started off uninterested in Araki, instead of being stuck in a will-they-won't-they relationship with him throughout the series. I think for a love interest she is one of the better ones in the fact that she could stand as a character in her own right.

While I made no mention of  Kusanaga Keigo (Jesse) in my first episode impressions post it was because there really was little to say about the character. He just stood around and was mysterious. He still remains so for the most part but his presence expands and he starts an antagonistic relationship with Araki and is certainly tied to the Kamen Teacher program. There has not been much of him to make a fair judgement, but I have the feeling that will change in the second half of the series as really the only thing that looks like Araki really needs to deal with is the black Kamen Teacher.

Probably what has continued to impress me about the series is the fact that Araki seems to be confronted with challenges to his ideals. As fun as the battles are the fight Araki has with whether or not his choice not to use violence to force troublesome students to behave is one of the more interesting fights to play out. Even though it looks like he will keep to his ideals there have been times where it really looked like he would slip up or convince himself that there could be an exception. And it is believable with all the pressure he gets.

And as an aside, I rather enjoy the 3-B Gumi Kinpatsu-sensei segments with Tsukada Ryoichi. They are wonderfully silly and do help pinpoint what the theme of the next battle will be. In a way it kinda reminds me of the Shadow Girls in the Revolutionary Girl Utena anime series as their segments had the same narrative function and were also rather odd. But it helps keep things light, which is needed at times.

Overall this drama is a great breath of fresh air for this genre. It may not stray far from the usual tropes but it does them well. And in doing so it makes using them feel natural and not as if the writers were just pulling them out for the sake of having them included.

I do hope it all keeps it up as it will undoubtedly become one of my favorite late night NTV dramas if it does.

HSJ's Weekender

I know I am late sharing this, but I am still on the fence when it comes to Hey! Say! JUMP. But the group will be releasing a new single in September on the 3rd. It will be a double A-side with the A-sides being the songs Weekender and Asu e no YELL. There are four versions of the single.

The first is the Limited Edition Type 1 that will come with a DVD with the PV for the song Weekender and the making of footage for it. The CD will only have the two title tracks on it.

The Limited Edition Type 2 is basically the same as the Type 1 except the DVD will have the PV for the song Asu e no YELL and making of footage on it.

Then there is a First Press Regular Edition that will just be a CD with the two title tracks as well as two B-sides not on any other versions of the single. One will be a Hey! Say! 7 unit song called Tada Mae e and the other a Hey! Say! BEST song, Suits Days. It will also have karaoke versions of all four songs.

The Regular Edition is just a CD with the title tracks and then two B-sides for the group not on any of the other versions of the single. The B-sides do have their names out and they are; Through the night and Rainbow Candy Girl.

You can get all four versions of the single in a bundle set. Just to make getting all four easier.

HSJ for me has become a group I would rather just wait for their album to buy. Unless I fall in love with one of the B-sides that gets previewed I doubt I will be buying this single. But I do like that they are releasing something this year after their album. It gives me hope that I will not have to wait too long for that next album, especially with this being a double A-side.

The Shounen Club 3 December 2010 review

I can't believe I am on the December episodes for 2010 already. Despite some set backs it looks like I feel like I am finally catching up with these episodes, especially as there will be a few weeks of two reviews a week for the 2011 episodes in about a month.

The show opens with the usual medley. The Juniors perform songs from 2010 and in the cases of NEWS and KAT-TUN they have the hosts, Koyama Keiichiro and Nakamaru Yuichi, perform with them. There is not a lot of focus on the main Junior groups in this, so it does not feel like the usual introduction.

Like in the past few episodes we get the guest of the episode to perform at the end of the medley. For this episode there is all of Hey! Say! JUMP for a change and they perform their only single released for 2010 so far, Hitomi no Screen.

The theme of the episode is 2010, and I guess we shall see how well they stick to it. Interestingly enough Arioka Daiki, Takaki Yuya and Nakajima Yuto are introduced as the supporters for the show even though they have the rest of the group there. I wonder how it would have been if those three were the only ones to host the program once Koyama and Nakamaru left.

This is followed by a performance led by Morimoto Shintaro with Snow Prince Gasshoudan and Hip Hop Jump of Boogie Woogie Cat. That is definitely not a song from 2010, so already we have theme deviation. But it is nice to see the main younger Juniors perform, especially as some are now some of the better known Juniors.

There is then an MC segment with Shintaro and B.I.Shadow. They all get to talk about something that happened to them in 2010. BIS go first as Shintaro's turn starts as they get ready for their performance after this.

BIS perform Akuma na Koi, which is nice to see them do as a group seeing as they were a part of the single. What is also nice is that all the members get plenty of camera time instead of the usual two getting most of it.

Jumping Paradise is next and is more of a talk segment this time around. The members of HSJ go over three of the big events the group did in 2010. The first is the group going to Hawaii together, then it was the SUMMARY concerts and finally their first album being released.

Kis-My-Ft2 is up next to perform and they do their group song Inori. IIRC, about this time the group had a commercial deal with one of the companies in Japan that sells ringtones and songs for phones with Inori and Firebeat being used in the commercials. Which of course helps explain why those songs are being performed again on the program.

Then it is the You no Otegami Yomitai Desu! segment with the usual trio of Juniors as hosts. The first letter brings out the natto lovers trio to discuss the topic.

The second letter is another letter that tries to match something to a Junior and this time it is Tamamori Yuta with an alpaca.

This is followed by A.B.C-Z getting to perform what was a new song for them, A to Z. It definitely seems to be a song written to play to the group's strengths as there are plenty of breaks for them to show off their dancing and acrobatics in it.

We have a Kansai Junior ni Q for this episode. B.A.D. joins BOYS as hosts for the segment this time around. The topic is about things that give you power and B.A.D. get to talk about it first, with Nakama Junta citing fan letters for him. Kiriyama Akito on the other hand jokes about it being on the Junior ni Q segment.

Most of the Kanjuu called up are new faces to the segment and I honestly have no idea who they are. There is one exception and that is Kaneuchi Toma. He talks about the bed his mother makes for him is what gives him power. It is odd to see him so reserved as he has come out of his shell so much since then.

HSJ then get an MC segment. While he was stuck in the back Yaotome Hikaru did the most talking, though Arioka Daiki made sure to chime in from time to time. They mainly talked about going on a trip together.

They started off the show with their first single for 2010 and here at the end they perform their last for the year Arigato ~Sekai no Doko ni Itemo~. This is always a fun song, or at least for me, as I enjoy hearing all the different languages used in it and it really is the start of a new style of song for the group post-1st album.

The show ends with HSJ performing again, this time an album track, Thank You ~Bokutachi kara Kimi e~. My main complaint about this is the fact that the group had only just done a performance and would rather have had that previous performance come in earlier in the program if they were going to end with this. Otherwise it is a nice mellow song to close on, and the album was released in 2010 so it can fit the theme.

Also what is nice is that at the very end the main Junior groups and Shintaro, all get to say something. Seeing as they all did not get highlighted at the start of the program it is nice to see them getting that kind of attention here.

A good episode of the show, if just because it do a good job in getting a large range of Juniors a chance to perform and get some camera time. Otherwise it was pretty forgettable overall.

Yet it will not be longer before we get some status quo changes with the program, for better or worse, as we soon enter the eventful year that was 2011.

Kamen Teacher final impressions

I happy to say that I ended up enjoying this drama from start to finish. Definitely a good series to get back into watching J-dramas once again.

While not 100% perfect this drama is still one of the better ones for its genre. A lot of this falls into the fact that the characters are strong and their actions make sense and do not feel like they are being done for the sake of hitting the next plot point. The theme of the series, starting over from past mistakes, is woven into the story so it is not beaten in to the heads of the audience as the themes in dramas like this do tend to be. And is able to mix the fun, action and drama of the series well.

Araki Gota (Fujigaya Taisuke) is a great protagonist. He is easy to like and want to see succeed in forging a new path for Kamen Teacher where students are saved by moving their hearts not forcing them into line with fear and fists. It has been interesting getting to learn more about him throughout the series and have him have to face the challenges of keeping true to his principles, even when he finds himself in doubt.

Seeing more of Kusanagi Keigo (Jesse) in the second half he is a character that works well to be the counter to Araki. It does feel as if his story is not completely done at the end but there is still a good amount about his character covered and a sense of change over the series, even if minor.

Ichimura Miki (Oomasa Aya) ended up being a character that I came to like quite a bit. She really became more than the love interest, in fact the whole romance angle with her and Araki seemed to be just something in the background in their interactions as we see much more of them bonding over wanting to truly take care of the students. It is sadly rare to find a well developed supporting female character, which is part of what makes Ichimura shine.

While I remained iffy about why Takehara Kinzo (Kikuchi Fuma) was considered more important than the rest of the M4, but the final story arc finally solved that. It finally gave him the chance to shine above the rest even though everyone in the M4 got their moments.

Overall I was quite glad to see that these characters did not fade into the background and remained important throughout the series. It really drove home that the change that happened with them was not superficial and their battles with Kamen Teacher truly did affect them.

And while all the major plots are wrapped up by the end of the series there is still enough given to justify a continuation, which of course is the movie that will be out on home video in Japan soon. That said I do wish we got more of an understanding of what was going on behind the Kamen Teacher program. That was probably the weakest part of the series as it just seemed like the head of the program was doing whatever he pleased, and while that put things in place for the plot it did not make an interesting plot itself.

Overall I really enjoyed this series. It is the kind that I would have no trouble going back to rewatch later if I ever have the time. It also shows what a show in this genre is capable of if more thought is put into it. I hope that the movie will not disappoint, as I cannot see how this would work in a much shorter time span.

With this series done I will be moving onto the next late night NTV series, 49 soon. With any luck I may finally catch up before the summer is over.

The Shounen Club 10 December 2010 review

Being the final episode of the year we get a Christmas themed episode. Perfect for the summer.

Things start off with the younger groups and Juniors getting introductions. It has been a while since they have done this so it was nice to see this change up. Especially for the ungrouped Juniors as they do tend to get shuffled around a bit.

It ends with the guest of the episode, Kamenashi Kazuya, getting introduced so he can perform the song White Christmas as a solo.

The usual hosts and supporters run out then to the stage so they can do the usual opening talk. It is no surprise that the theme for the episode is Christmas.

Of course we get a Christmas medley to follow that. There is a mix of Christmas themed Johnny's songs and translated Western Christmas carols used for it, and most of the Juniors in the introduction perform in the medley.

This is followed by a Gekkan Koyamaru segment. It is Nakamaru Yuichi's turn and he has tried to get photos related to the holiday. He does look to have put in some extra effort with his Tonakai (reindeer) picture as he has those whose first kanji of their last names correlate to spell the word.

B.I.Shadow with Mis Snow Man get the next performance as they sing Cinderella Christmas together. It is nice to see MSM do more than just back dance and they seem to be gaining more of a presence on the program. Unfortunately it is not as lasting as it could have been.

Then Kame gets the usual guest MC segment with the hosts. The topic is of course what Kame usually does for Christmas.

He then performs what was a new song at the time, his solo song Plastic Tears. After all the Christmas themed performances this sticks out like a sore thumb being nothing close to the theme. But on the other hand it would be ridiculous to not have a guest perform one of their own songs when on the program.

The game segment is next up, and is a Christmas special version. It seems strange that this is the first time we are seeing any member of Kis-My-Ft2 or A.B.C-Z on stage. I had almost forgotten that they were there for the filming of these December episodes. Kame is brought out to be the guest judge for the segment as it is the game series about love confessions.

Kame is not the only one with a performance that breaks the theme, as Kisumai perform FIRE BEAT. It does make sense as I am certain this was the time they had a tie-in with a song download service for cell phones which used this song and Inori. Though Inori would probably fit the theme a bit more FIRE BEAT helped energize the program again after the lull with the game.

There is then a Junior ni Q segment to bring things back on track with the theme of the episode. The Juniors get to talk about the kind of Christmas that they want, starting with Nakajima Kento wanting a romantic Christmas that involves a Christmas tree.

We get most of Snow Prince Gasshoudan brought over as they all wrote that they want it to snow for Christmas. Apparently only two of the five had actually seen snow in person.

Kyomoto Taiga wanted a Christmas like the one in picture books and then had a message saying that he wanted to talk to Koyama Keiichiro and Nakamaru. Not sure if I got it right but I think Kyomoto brings up that Koyama and Nakamaru were the ones that spoiled him on the fact that Santa was not real and the two try to put the blame on the other for that.

Up next is Fujigaya Taisuke who wrote down something about a theme park but ends up talking about various Christmas day scenarios.

Miyata Toshiya goes with a more standard home party, but talks about eating something that sounds like tiken, or a badly mispronounced chicken. Going by Koyama and Nakamaru's reaction to the word it sounds like it is an intentionally mispronounced chicken. And that wraps up the segment.

There is then a second Christmas medley, but this one has Koyama and Nakamaru performing in it as they do group songs from their respective groups with Juniors performing with them. Then they cover a Kinki Kids song, Another Christmas together.

The closing song is White X'mas, KAT-TUN's Christmas song. While it starts off lead by Kame he is joined by the hosts, supporters and the older Juniors as the song goes along. It works very well as a closing song for the episode, but very few Johnny's Christmas songs would not have worked.

It is odd that they dropped the Christmas special episodes for a couple years for Shounen Club. I think this year though they at least had the excuse that they were doing a special end of year program instead. I remember that clearly as that program was the introduction of JaPAnese Hi! and thus Sato Shori. And that will mark the start of the rest of the final Sexy Zone members showing up on the program pre-debut.

2010 was not a bad year but with so much happening in 2011 it is an easy year to forget, outside of being the last full year Koyama and Nakamaru hosted the program. Especially with the supporters trio dressed for the holiday.
